Artist Research: Tamara De Lempicka

Tamara De Lempicka was a Polish painter and is consider the most famous painter of the Art Deco period.  Most of her portrait work seem to appeal to the rich because of her use of bold colors and tones.  She was introduced to art at the age of 12.  Her mom had her portrait painted by famous artist.  When she saw her portrait and didn’t like it.  She felt like she could have did a better job.  But she made it difficult for the painter because she was constantly moving.  To prove herself, she painted a portrait of her sister and was very please with it.  That’s when her love for art began.  Lempicka’s art style was influenced by her two art teachers, Maurice Denis and Andreé Lhote.  With the two styles, she combined post-symbolism with cubism making her the best portrait artist in Paris.
